On February 11, we observe the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, commemorating the vital role women play in advancing science, innovation, and healthcare. At Saint‑Gobain Medical, science and quality are at the heart of how we collaborate with customers to improve lives through advanced materials and medical solutions. In honor of this day, we’re spotlighting Jennifer Roberts, a quality expert whose career reflects our commitment to science-driven solutions.

QA & Business Quality Program Manager

QA & Business Quality Program Manager Role

Q: Can you tell us about your role as a QA & Business Quality Program Manager?

A:  I lead the Quality team at the Poestenkill, NY site and support the Medical business in developing our Supplier Quality Management program. Every day is different; I help manage customer complaints, set and adopt policies related to our QMS (Quality Management System), and support internal and supplier auditing programs.  There is a lot of daily interaction with employees and leaders to ensure that they understand Quality culture and expectations to ensure that we are successful as a business.

Q: What excites you most about working in medical manufacturing and quality?

A:  Working in medical manufacturing and quality allows me to combine my passion for science, continuous improvement, and collaboration with a strong sense of purpose.  There are always challenges and I enjoy being part of a solutions focused team.

Q: What’s something about your work that people might be surprised to learn?

A: While many people perceive auditing as stressful, serving as an auditor offers a unique opportunity to gain in‑depth insight into processes and business operations—often beyond what you would experience in a day‑to‑day role. Auditing exposes you to different ways of working that you may be able to adopt at your own site without reinventing the wheel, and it allows you to build relationships with subject matter experts who can become valuable resources in the future.

A Career in STEM

Q: What sparked your interest in a STEM career?

A: From an early age, I had a strong interest in science, from chemistry experiments to evolution, which ultimately led me to pursue a degree in biology. While I didn’t have a clearly defined career path early on, I knew I wanted to work for a company where I could apply my skills and continue to grow, which led me to Saint‑Gobain.

Q: What advice would you give to young women or girls who are considering a career in STEM?

A: Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Seeking clarity strengthens your technical expertise. Knowledge truly is power.

Advocate for yourself by sharing your goals with your manager, requesting feedback, and documenting your contributions.

Master your communication skills to complement your technical abilities and effectively navigate or address bias if you encounter it.

Be a reliable team member, consistently follow through on commitments, combined with intentional networking, this builds trust and rapport with individuals who can mentor and sponsor you, and who might help open doors that can change the course of your career.
