Filtration

Disc Filters

Disc filters play an important role in medical applications. Typically designed as thin, circular components, they encapsulate various filter materials such as membranes, media, and screen/mesh, making them ideal for a wide range of liquid, air, and gas filtration needs. Their compact design ensures easy integration into devices and complex systems. Saint-Gobain Medical offers customization in size, material, and configuration to address the unique challenges of each application.

Features & Benefits

Design & Construction

  • Compact design for easy integration
  • Thermally sealed for higher pressure tolerance, no adhesives used
  • Made from polypropylene (PP), gamma-stable PP, and polyethylene
  • RD65 filters are thermally sealed without an overmolded ring

Performance & Functionality

  • Pre-filtration, sterile filtration, and multi-stage filtration for liquids and gases
  • Filter materials with pore sizes from 0.05 µm to 300 µm
  • Vent fittings available for D65 and D90 filters
  • Superior airflow and low backpressure in PureFlo® G50, ideal for venting applications

Customization & Compatibility

  • Nine standard configurations, customizable options
  • Sizes from 4 mm to 90 mm, diameters from 0.47” to 3.9”, EFA from 0.03 cm² to 60 cm²
  • Tailored to meet biocompatibility (e.g. USP Class VI) and sterilization (e.g. ETO) requirements
  • Wide selection of inlet/outlet fittings to prevent installation errors and fluid loss

Typical Applications

  • Respiratory Therapy: Removing particulates and bacteria from air/gas streams to protect patients; removing excess moisture from air/gas streams to protect electronics within devices such as ventilators or CPAP machines.
  • Point-of-Use Water Filtration: Sterilizing grade point-of-use water filtration for clinical, dental, and other critical settings where exposure to bacteria and other pathogens is of concern.
  • Minimally Invasive Surgery: Sterilizing grade filtration of CO2 gas used for insufflation of the abdominal cavity during laparoscopic surgery.
  • Ophthalmology: Protecting both patients and equipment during surgical procedures, such as cataract surgery, by removing contaminants and moisture from air/gas streams.
  • Surgery Smoke: Removing harmful particles from evacuated surgery smoke released during laser and electrosurgical procedures.
  • In Vitro Diagnostics: Particulate removal of samples, reagents, and cleaning fluids to protect IVD equipment and extend maintenance cycles.
  • Flow Cytometry: Sheath fluid, air, and cleaning fluid filters to mitigate interference in the diagnostic assessment and maximize uptime in flow cytometers.
