Tubing continues to be an integral part of today's sophisticated medical devices. Saint-Gobain meets these challenges with quality and consistency through a variety of high-performance materials including our Tygon® and C-Flex® branded products.
We produce standard and custom size tubing products that can be color matched, printed and shipped on spools or in cut lengths. Materials include silicone, polyurethane, polyolefin, fluoropolymers, thermoplastics and custom formulations.
No single material excels in every environment and some applications require a combination of materials to create an optimal solution. Coextrusion allows for different materials to be bonded to one another in the tubing wall to create a product that delivers multiple benefits. The result could be a tubing with an inner diameter made from a fluoropolymer for superior chemical resistance bonded to an outer diameter constructed from an elastomer which provides long pump life.
Profile extrusions can be a cost effective alternative to two dimensional molded shapes. Produced in a continuous process, profiles can be produced in a wide variety of geometries and can be manufactured using both solid and sponged materials.
A multi-lumen extrusion is tubing with more than one chamber (or lumen) along the ID with a singular outer diameter. Multi-lumen tubing is often used for air, material or fluid transfer. In medical applications, multi-lumen tubing is used to deliver a variety of fluids simultaneously without cross-contamination.
A radiopaque extrusion is tubing with a barium-blended stripe embedded in the extrusion. This provides health care providers with the ability to visually identify the position of the tubing inside the patient's body using x-rays. Radiopaque stripes can be added to Saint-Gobain extrusions, including silicone, fluoropolymers, polyurethane, polyolefin and other thermoplastic elastomers. We offer a wide range of color options to help differentiate your product.
Paratubing is combining of two or more tubes longitudinally through a heat weld. Multiple color tubing helps end users color-code material flowing through the lumen of the tubes. The tubes are easily strippable and leave no parting lines, so fittings may be injection molded onto the ends of the tubes.
Flat or elliptical tapes are continuous extrusions of thin films in a limited width. Products can be produced in various colors and sizes, and usually require additional process steps before they can be used in the end application. Typical tap applications include check-valve diaphragms and septa seals.
Silicone Corrugated Tubing
Silicone corrugated tubing is an extruded tube combined with an outside diameter solid silicone reinforcement. The reinforcement ensures that the inner diameter does not collapse during use or kink when flexed. This design stands up to bending, twisting and some direct loads while maintaining the inner diameter flow. Silicone corrugated tubing is primarily used as a reusable, non-collapsible silicone breathing hose in assisted breathing devices.
