Tubing
Tubing continues to be an integral part of today's
sophisticated medical device. At Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics
we understand this and meet these challenges with quality and consistency
in existing and new formulations of TYGON® and high performance
silicone tubing.
We produce standard, metric and custom size tubing
products that can be color matched, printed and can be JIT shipped
in spools or cut lengths. Materials include Silicone, PVC, Polyurethane,
Polyolefin, Thermoplastic Rubbers and custom formulations.
Coextrusion
The coextrusion process combines two or more materials
at the extruder head to produce a single lumen tube. This tube will
be a sandwich of materials in tubing form. Coextrusion is done to
combine the properties of two or more materials that can't effectively
be blended or mixed. For example, it is possible to take a material
with excellent chemical resistance and place it in the ID of the
tubing and combine it with a material with excellent heat characteristics
on the OD of the tube.
Profiles
Profile extrusions can be tubing, sponges or solids.
These profiles can cover an infinite range of shapes, configurations
and materials.
Multi-lumen
A multi-lumen extrusion is tubing with more than one
chamber along the ID. Multi-lumen tubing is often used for air,
material or fluid transfer. In medical applications, a multi-lumen
tube can be used to combine more than one function (i.e.: suction
and irrigation) in the same restricted space.
Radiopaque
A radiopaque extrusion is tubing that includes a barium-blended
stripe embedded in the extrusion. The purpose is to provide the
surgeon the ability to identify the location of the implanted surgical
drain or component using x-rays. Radiopaque stripes can be added
to all extrusions Saint-Gobain produces including Silicone, PVC,
Polyurethane, Polyolefin and other thermoplastic elastomers. We
offer a wide range of color options to help differentiate your product.
Paratubing
Paratubing is the combining of two or more tubes longitudinally
by the use of a heat weld. The tubes can be welded side by side
or in the shapes of "Ls" or triangles. The tubes may be of multiple
colors so as to help the end user color code material flowing through
the lumen of the tubes. The tubes are easily strippable and leave
no parting lines so fittings may be injection molded onto the ends
of the tubes. Saint-Gobain produces paratubing in all materials
we provide.
Tapes
Flat or elliptical tapes are extruded in various colors
and sizes. These silicone extrusions are sold as coils with or without
separating layers (Mylar®) between them.
Corrugated tubing, Silicone
Silicone corrugated tubing manufactured by Saint-Gobain
Performance Plastics is an extruded tube combined with an outside
diameter solid silicone reinforcement. The purpose of the reinforcement
is to ensure that the inner diameter does not collapse during use.
This design will stand up to kinking, twisting and some direct loads
while maintaining the inner diameter flow. This product is designed
primarily for use as a reusable non-collapsible silicone breathing
hose used in assisted breathing devices.
Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics manufactures three
varieties of breathing hose all made from silicone. Silicone's advantage
over other materials is that it can repeatedly sterilized for multi-use
applications, is biocompatiable and environmentally friendly.

SilMedic®
